Vancouverites are world-famous for being forward-thinking and building a “future-proof” house that complies with upcoming “green” bylaw changes, but still produces a superior return on investment in this everchanging market is currently a hot topic.

Our recent FUTURE-HOME community service seminar produced a standing-room-only crowd of interested parties. Not only was this an opportunity for people to learn about the upcoming bylaw changes #energystepcode  and the latest in home automation, but it was an opportunity to learn more about how to reduce energy costs and individual carbon footprint.

“We were excited about the enthusiasm everyone had for the subject and some very good technical questions were asked.” Said Award-winning home Designer, Eric Lee.

Sharing is a value VictorEric holds dear.  Sharing knowledge of how to profit from the Vancouver housing market has always been part of the VictorEric mission.  Because saving the planet is such an important matter, VictorEric has even taken it upon itself to travel to Switzerland to ensure they are knowledgeable about the world’s most cutting edge technologies for creating High-Efficiency Homes.  Back in Feburary,  the company sponsored a tour of one of its High-Efficiency Homes under construction to help bring City inspectors and competitors up to speed on the latest technologies.

Knowledge is power and another VictorEric value is to empower the community with the knowledge people need to make sensible decisions. Realizing buying a used-home or building a custom-home is generally the largest investment a person makes, it is critical to understand all the facets requiring consideration.   This is why VictorEric included home automation guru, Patrick Ha of Audiospace as a co-presenter.  Automating the reflectivity of your windows, the opening/closing of curtains to control heat and light-flow, and the settings of lighting and appliances can greatly improve your current home’s efficiency.

Globally, cities are paying more and more attention to the issue of Climate change, trying to come up with action plans to minimize our carbon footprint. The City of Vancouver is at the forefront of that, with a vision of becoming the Greenest city in the world. As such a ‘step code’ was introduced to guide new buildings towards being carbon neutral.  This encourages higher quality building methods, with better insulation, more sophisticated heat and air exchange systems, smart-glass but with all these innovations come higher construction costs.  Understanding the amazing investment-value and cost savings over time is crucial especially for people who will someday be on a fixed-income and not able to cope with $400+/month in heating/cooling costs.

Due to popular demand, our General Manager is squeezing another seminar in this summer, this time in Burnaby. The Burnaby Future Home Seminar, August 3, 1:00-3:00 PM at the Alan Emmott Centre on 6650 Southoaks Crescent in Burnaby.

If you are interested in planet-saving initiatives, passive-house construction methods, Vancouver’s housing market or the development of the city you love – this is an event you will not want to miss!
